-Woodford Food & Beverage-
A Neighborhood Bar & Dining Room
Opened in January of 2016, Woodford Food & Beverage is the culmination of a long running conversation betwixt owners Fayth Preyer & Birch Shambaugh and friend Courtney Loreg (bio below) about great neighborhood restaurants we’ve loved, and why they matter. Steeped in New England and classic regional cooking, the result is an outpost for intentional American dining in the wilds of Woodfords Corner, Portland. Housed in a storied mid-century building at the center of the neighborhood we love, the joint we built draws inspiration from Maine’s natural bounty, Steak House & Brasserie classics, quality American roadside dining and bygone hospitality.
Woodford F&B is where we get to spend our days creating meals & experiences that make us happy. Here you will find the freshest seafood, including heaps of local oysters & mussels, alongside one of Maine’s best burgers, choice Steaks & Chops and outstanding seasonal produce. We pickle anything that sits still long enough, and quench thirsts daily with both fresh & classic cocktails, natural wines & local beer. Perhaps most importantly, we know that a great meal is more than just great food. So come check out Woodfords Corner the next time you're in Portland - it’s worth the visit.
-Courtney Loreg-
Courtney Loreg is the Executive Chef at Woodford Food & Beverage in Portland, Maine. A graduate of NECI, Loreg has honed her skills in some truly remarkable kitchens; Cafe Boulud in NY, Hamersly's Bistro in Boston and as Sous Chef at Fore St. & Bresca in Portland, ME, to name a few. She's also been a fishmonger, a baker, a decades long MOFGA member, and worked access control for the occasional rock show.
Most recently Courtney spent three years as the Sous Chef of Wente Vineyards in Livermore, California, before moving back to Maine to help open Woodford F&B with friends Fayth Preyer and Birch Shambaugh. F&B was born of a long running conversation between the three, over endless beer and cheese, oysters and bubbles, about the types of restaurants that matter to them, the types that seemed to be a dying breed. They wanted to make that kind of place themselves; the sort of spot that celebrated place, and routinely delivered not just delicious meals, but reliably great times. The sort of joint that fostered meaningful connections and long-term relationships with staff, purveyors, guests and their community. Over the past 6 years Courtney and team have worked tirelessly to make Woodford F&B that place, committed to being the best restaurant they can be, and doing as much good as possible along the way.
Midwestern by birth & studious by nature, Loreg has amassed a deep technical expertise that's well matched to her passion for Maine's bounty, her dedication to classic American cooking and her love of the pleasures of great meal. When she isn't running the line at Woodford F&B, you'll probably come across Courtney down on the fish wharves, at the nearest antiquarian cookbook store, enjoying a colleague's cooking while sitting at their bar, or vibing to whatever good band has rolled into town. If you're lucky, she may agree to lend you something from her insane cookbook library, but a six-pack of good IPA is likely required.
